Kit Kabin

Kit Kabin is a modular kit build cabin. It is factory constructed with bio composites, cross laminated bamboo and hemp insulation sandwich. The components have simple geometry and panels are light weight for ease on construction on site. The cabin can be completed with in a day with two people. The kit package, including kitchen and bathroom fit into a 6-metre half high-cube shipping container. If you include all furnishing, with drop-drown bed, table and chairs and all wardrobes the package will fit in a standard 12-metre high-cube shipping container or 2 halves.

Features of the Kit Kabin are fold-out kitchen unit, incinerating toilets, drop-drown bed/sofa units, and the amazing foldaway steps by Klapstep to a loft. The loft comes in two versions – one, solid walls and glazing the opens, or second, a high-tech canvas version that rolls up and completely opens the loft to nature with mosquito screens.

This project is aims to blur the lines of indoor/outdoor living with nature in a compact space. The accordion glass doors open almost half the cabin to the outdoors. Like nature, the inside of the cabin, space is better utilised by using the same space with for dining, living and sleeping – nothing wasted. The loft can be configured as a multi-purpose tatami room for sleeping under the stars, children’s accommodation, or a green house.

The cabin is powered by high efficiency solar cells integrated into the 8 roof panels. 4 panels are thin film photovoltaic, 2 or clear organic dye-sensitised solar and the remaining 2 are hybrid thermal/photovoltaic providing hot water heating. Energy is stored in 50kWh battery in the floor modules. The south facing wall has adjustable shutters to regulate sun radiation into the glass box.

The cabin can be unassuming when approaching the entrance with sliding door disappearing into the wall. Upon entrance there is a living wall with plants the clear the surrounding air in the cabin.

The 6-metere container can be used for storage or returned. And, with all Catching Light cabins and villas, it can be put on a floating platform.
